243 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Ontario today

Public Health Ontario is reporting 243 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is a 0.8 increase in overall cases reported in the province to-date. 

The daily update also notes there have been 240 new recoveries and 24 more deaths attributed to the coronavirus. 

The deaths reported today include six people between the ages of 60 and 79 and 18 people over the age of 80. 

There are now 603 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, including 118 patients in intensive care and 81 patients on ventilators.  

Public Health Ontario has confirmed there were 15,357 tests processed since yesterday’s report. 

In Ontario, there have been 30,860 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of those 24,492 are reported recovered (79.4 per cent) and 2,450 people have died (7.9 per cent). 

The incidence rate average for the province of Ontario is 207.6 cases per 100,000 people in the population. More than 67 per cent of the cases reported in Ontario have been from the GTA public health units. 

The Ministry of Long-Term Care has reported there are now 78 current outbreaks at long-term care homes in Ontario with 884 active cases of COVID-19 in residents and 665 active cases in staff. The ministry has reported 1,720 deaths of residents (Public Health has only reported 1,575 so far), and seven deaths of staff members (Public Health has only reported five). 

Public Health Ontario is also reporting 36 active outbreaks in retirement home and seven active outbreaks in hospitals. 

In Simcoe-Muskoka region, the local health unit has confirmed a total of 486 cases with 410 now recovered and 36 deaths, leaving 40 active cases in Simcoe County and Muskoka.
