KEMPENFELT COMMUNITY PLAYERS

Over the last six weeks, the Kempenfelt Community Players sewing team has produced nearly 1,400 headbands to assist local frontline workers and relieve ear strain caused by wearing masks and PPE.
The team, led by costumer Brenda Thompson, is making headbands and masks for workers at local nursing homes, RVH, and the VON. The demand for headbands and masks has not diminished as the team continues to receive requests for more on a regular basis.
Since their initial call for donations, the team has received nearly $800 in monetary donations, as well as metres and metres of donated fabric, buttons, and sewing materials.
They are incredibly grateful to all who have contributed as this initiative really took off thanks to their generosity.
Special thanks to Moving Art, South Simcoe Theatre, and Theatre by the Bay for allowing Brenda to raid your costume departments and to our list of private donors, please know that they could not have done it without you.
However, as requests continue to come in, particularly for the headbands, the team still needs your support. Cash donations are most appreciated as the group can purchase materials in bulk to keep the sewers sewing and keep our health care system going through these incredibly tough times. Or, should you happen to be in possession of jersey knit fabric (or similar stretchy fabric) and buttons between .75” and 1.5” in diameter to create headbands these are the materials that are in the highest demand.
