New COVID cases reported at Barrie, Alliston and Innisfil schools today

Four new COVID-19 cases have been reported today at schools in Alliston, Barrie and Innisfil.

Since yesterday, a new case has been reported at St. Paul's Catholic School in Alliston, with one classroom closed. This adds to one other active case at the school reported on Dec. 1. One classroom was closed as a result of that case.

St. Mary's Catholic School in Barrie is also reporting a new case, with a classroom closed.

St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic School, also in Barrie, is reporting a new case today. No classrooms are closed as a result of this case.

Alcona Glen Elementary School in Innisfil has one new case today, adding to one other active case that was reported on Dec. 3 where one classroom was closed. No classrooms have been closed as a result of the new case.

An outbreak at Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School in Angus was declared over by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit as of Monday, reported to the public on Tuesday. The school had been in outbreak since Nov. 15.

There are currently five schools across Simcoe County declared in outbreak according to the health unit's reporting: Banting Memorial High School in Alliston, Nantyr Shores Secondary School in Innisfil, Steele Street Public School in Barrie, Bradford District High School in Bradford and Portage View Public School in Barrie.

The health unit updates its outbreak list at 1 p.m. daily.

An outbreak at a school is defined by the local health unit as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or staff (or other visitors) with an epidemiological link (i.e. shared space or objects with each other), within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have contracted COVID-19 in the school (including transportation and before/after school care).

The schools all remain open.

The school boards and the health unit have not reported whether the individuals are students or staff members.
