Public Health Ontario has confirmed 251 new, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, and has reported four more deaths related to the coronavirus.
Among the four people who died were two individuals between the ages of 60 and 79 years old and two individuals over the age of 80.
This is the second-highest number of new cases reported in a single day this month, with 313 new cases reported yesterday.
Of the 251 new cases reported today, 116 are individuals between 20 and 39 and another 67 people are people between 40 and 59 years old. According to a breakdown of today's new cases by the health unit that reported them, 75 per cent of the 251 new cases came from four of Ontario's 34 health units. Ottawa Public Health reported 51 of today's cases, Peel reported 42, Toronto reported 73 and York Region reported 22.
Public Health Ontario reports there are 32 ongoing outbreaks at long-term care homes, 18 outbreaks at retirement homes, and two outbreaks at hospitals in the province.
According to the province's data on schools and daycare centres, there are 29 total school-related cases (14 staff, nine students, six unidentified) and they are spread across 27 different schools.
Public Health Ontario has reported 45,068 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario since January, and has noted 40,091 of those cases (89 per cent) are now recovered. The province has also confirmed 2,820 cases (6.3 per cent) have ended in death.
There are 2,157 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province, including 47 people in hospital. There are 19 COVID-19 patients in intensive care and 11 patients on ventilators with the coronavirus.
The average incidence rate for all of Ontario is 303 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
Since last report, the province indicates there were 27,664 COVID tests processed and another 24,339 await results.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has now reported a total of 761 coronavirus cases in the region to date, with 719 of the cases in Simcoe County. Of all the cases in Simcoe-Muskoka, 673 are listed as recovered and 37 people have died. One person from New Tecumseth is in hospital.
The health unit reports there are 44 unrecovered cases in Simcoe County, including 33 in Barrie, two in Bradford, two in New Tecumseth, four in Innisfil, one in Wasaga Beach, one in Springwater, and one in Ramara. There are seven unrecovered cases in Muskoka District.
