Public Health Ontario has confirmed 335 new COVID-19 cases in the province today, with nearly one-third of those coming from Toronto.
For the second day in a row, the province has also confirmed three more COVID-related deaths. The most recent fatalities include one person between 60 and 79 years old and two people over the age of 80.
In the breakdown of today's cases by health units, the province noted there were seven cases previously reported that were removed from the list, meaning there were actually 342 new cases of COVID confirmed today.
Of today's 342 new cases, 102 are from Toronto, 79 are from Peel, 30 are from York Region, and 65 are from Ottawa.
The province has also confirmed 42 new school-related cases, including 21 students and five staff. The remaining 16 cases are unidentified. There are now 180 school-related cases spread across 153 schools in Ontario. Two schools have closed.
As has been the trend lately, a majority of the cases (232) are individuals under 40 years old. As of today's update, there have been 16,144 cases confirmed in the 20 to 39 year olds age group, and 13,900 confirmed in the 40 to 59 year olds age group. There have been 8,097 cases reported in people aged 60 to 79 years old and another 6,210 reported in people over the age of 80. The smallest incidence rate is in those aged 19 and under, with 3,725 cases confirmed in youth.
Since yesterday's update, the province has confirmed another 35,436 tests processed in 24 hours. The percent positivity rate (number of positive tests compared to all tests processed) has risen since August and is now 1.5 per cent.
To date, the province has confirmed 48,087 cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, and has reported 41,600 of those cases as recovered, and 2,835 of those cases ending in death.
There are now 3,652 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, including 88 people who are hospitalized with the coronavirus. There are 24 COVID patients in intensive care units and nine COVID patients on ventilators.
The average incidence rate for the virus in Ontario is 323.5 cases per 100,000 people.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 825 cases of COVID-19, with 778 of those in Simcoe County. There are now 702 cases listed as recovered. There is one person from Barrie hospitalized in Simcoe County with COVID-19. Thirty-eight people have died.
The health unit indicates there are 77 unrecovered cases in Simcoe County.
