Six new school COVID cases reported over the weekend in Barrie, Alliston and Bradford

Six new COVID-19 cases have been reported at Simcoe County schools since Friday.

On Friday, one new case was reported at St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Barrie, with two classrooms closed. This adds to three other active cases at the school reported on Dec. 7, Nov. 27 and Nov. 23 with two classrooms closed as a result of those cases. There were also additional cases reported on Nov. 23 and Oct. 23 at the school that have since recovered.

On Sunday, there was a case reported at Sister Catherine Donnelly Catholic School in Barrie. No classrooms have been closed as a result of that case.

On Monday morning, one case has been reported at W.H. Day Elementary School in Bradford. One classroom has been closed as a result of that case.

Banting Memorial High School in Alliston is reporting one new case on Monday, with no classroom closures. Cases previously reported at the school on Dec. 2, Nov. 30 and Nov. 2 have since recovered.

Bradford District High School in Bradford is reporting one new case, with one classroom closed as a result. Cases previously reported at the school on Dec. 2, Nov. 30, Nov. 24, Nov. 16, Nov. 12, Nov. 2, Oct. 29, Oct. 25 and Oct. 1 have since recovered.

Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie is also reporting one new case with one classroom closed. Cases previously reported at the school on Nov. 25, Nov. 24 and Oct. 14 have since recovered.

The health unit does not release information about whether positive cases are students or staff due to privacy concerns. 

There are currently six schools across Simcoe County in outbreak as of Monday morning: Portage View Public School in Barrie, Bear Creek Secondary School, Steele Street Public School in Barrie, Nantyr Shores Secondary School in Innisfil, Banting Memorial High School in Alliston, and Bradford District High School in Bradford. The health unit updates their outbreak reporting by 1 p.m. on weekdays.

An outbreak at a school is defined by the local health unit as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or staff (or other visitors) with an epidemiological link (i.e. shared space or objects with each other), within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have contracted COVID-19 in the school (including transportation and before/after school care).

The schools all remain open.
