INSIDE THE VILLAGE: Thursday is the new Friday

This week on the podcast: Why more and more companies are cutting employee work hours but paying them the same — and how that change is fighting burnout and boosting productivity

Welcome back to Inside the Village, a one-of-a-kind podcast where all news is local — and no topic is off-limits.

On this week's episode: The many benefits of a 32-hour work week.

More and more companies are adopting a four-day work week in the hopes of reducing employee burnout and increasing productivity — and the concept appears to be working.

A new report from a non-profit think tank, Infinite Potential, found that only nine per cent of employees report feeling burned out at organizations that have implemented a reduced schedule at the same pay. That number spikes to 41 per cent at workplaces with a standard 40-hour week.

Joining us on the podcast is a person who spends his workdays helping companies implement shorter schedules: Joe O’Connor, CEO of the Toronto-based Work Time Reduction Center of Excellence.

Also on the program: Is it time for Ontario to allow composting of dead bodies?

Hosted by Scott Sexsmith and Michael Friscolanti, the Editor-in-Chief of Village Media, Inside the Village is a news and current affairs podcast that provides a weekly window into some of the best local journalism from across our chain of Ontario newsrooms. Produced by Derek Turner, the program also explores bigger-picture issues that impact people across the province.
