3 area residents charged with impaired this week

The South Simcoe Police Service charged three people with impaired driving in three days.

On Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022, at approximately 2:10 a.m., police responded to a collision where a single vehicle struck a snowbank in the area of Colborne Street and Britannia Avenue in Bradford.  When police arrived on scene, a rear tire on the vehicle was on fire. Police and firefighters extinguished the fire. No one was injured. As a result of the investigation, 47-year-old Gary Rushton of Bradford was charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired - Excess Blood Alcohol.  His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

On Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, at approximately 7:30 p.m., police responded to a collision where a single vehicle struck a retaining wall and then got stuck in a snowbank in the area of Lebanon Drive and Willard Avenue in Innisfil.  No one was injured. As a result of the investigation, 67-year-old Lawrence Miller of Innisfil was charged with Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired - Excess Blood Alcohol, Dangerous Operation, Open Liquor and Liquor Readily Available.  His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

On Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at approximately 9 p.m., police were conducting a RIDE program in the area of Line 5 and Coffey Road in Bradford. A vehicle was stopped and an officer spoke to the driver who falsely identified himself.  As a result of the investigation, 29-year-old Raza Pervez of Bradford was charged with Operation While Impaired by Drug and Obstruct Peace Officer. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

The South Simcoe Police Service is committed to road safety and conducts RIDE programs year round. Impaired driving is a crime in progress. We continue to urge citizens to call 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver. Thank you to the citizens who make that call.
