Barrie doc to go to trial on one charge related to wife's death

Coryn Hayman has been ordered to stand trial on the charge of failing to provide the necessaries of life and will appear in court on April 21

A Barrie doctor charged in connection with the death of his wife has been ordered to stand trial on the charge of failing to provide the necessaries of life.

Charlotte Coughler, 33, a nurse at Mackenzie Health in Richmond Hill, died on January 30, 2020. Her husband, Dr. Coryn Hayman, was charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life and criminal negligence causing death the following month.

Hayman, who was 46 at the time, was an emergency physician at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

Court documents at the time indicated the charges stemmed from an alleged incident that occurred sometime during the two days prior to the woman’s death.

Friday’s decision to proceed to trial on the one charge came following an ongoing preliminary hearing.

Hayman is scheduled to appear in the Superior Court of Justice on April 21 for a judicial pretrial.
