Barrie police have charged a local man in connection to a failure-to-remain collision in November which left an elderly man with serious injuries.

On Saturday Nov. 12, 2022, at 9:56 p.m., Barrie police responded to a pedestrian being struck near Sadlon Arena on Bayview Drive in the city's south end.

Police say the male pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle travelling southbound on Bayview that failed to remain at the scene.

The pedestrian, who is a resident of Barrie and in his early 70s, was seriously injured as a result of the collision. He was initially transported to a local hospital and was later taken to a Toronto trauma centre where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Traffic investigators were able to confirm that the suspect vehicle was a Honda Accord and that it would be missing the driver’s-side side mirror.

With the public's help, police say they located the suspect vehicle on Tuesday and arrested a 54-year-old Barrie man, who has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of a collision causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on Feb. 13, 2023.
