CAA South Central Ontario (CAA SCO) says it is currently experiencing an extremely high demand for service due to the blizzard and road closures.

Its network is working at full capacity while it prioritizes emergency calls and members in unsafe situations, the automobile association said in a note to media outlets.

If you find yourself stranded, CAA advises that you call 911 for assistance and follow these steps:

1. Activate your four-way emergency lights and attempt to safely pull over to the side of the road.

2.  Assess if it's safe to stay in the vehicle or wait outside.

  • If staying in, don't leave the car running for an extended length of time; there is a danger of carbon monoxide poisoning. Make sure to also keep your seatbelt on.
  • If you choose to exit your vehicle, stay away from oncoming traffic and exit through the side of the vehicle facing away from traffic.

Members waiting in safety at home may experience longer than expected wait times. If you are at home, ensure your vehicle and driveway is accessible for the driver, CAA said.

CAA members can obtain their own service with another provider and submit a receipt for reimbursements. Just remember to cancel your call if you do, the CAA said.

CAA South Central Ontario's coverage area includes most of southern as well as Sault Ste. Marie.
