A COVID-19 outbreak in the Barrie hospital's transitional care unit is now over.

Four patients and nine staff members had become infected with the virus during the outbreak.

In consultation with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) announced Monday that the outbreak has been declared over.

The unit is once again open to transfers and new admissions as well as visitors, following RVH’s visitor policy and protocols.

The outbreak was declared on Jan. 7, at which time RVH implemented its outbreak management protocol, which involved enhanced cleaning, surveillance, education and frequent communication to patients.
