Essa Prep team bounced by one point in inaugural home game

Trailing by 10 points through most of the game, new local team fought back before falling to Redmond on Thursday night

The new Essa Prep women's basketball team hosted its first-ever home-opener at Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie on Thursday evening, losing a nail-biter of a game to the visiting Redmond squad from Etobicoke.

The final score was 59-58 for Redmond.

Trailing by 10 points through most of the game, the local team clawed back to within a single point for the remaining six minutes, but could not take the lead despite several good scoring chances.

Their next game at home is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 7 against the King Knights.

The team later travels as far as Washington, D.C., for a three-day tournament on Dec. 8, and also to Bronx, N.Y., for an event on Jan. 26, 2024.
