Women and Children’s Shelter of Barrie is thrilled to be able to host a live, in-person International Women’s Day (IWD) luncheon on Wednesday, March 8.

Presenting sponsor Barrie Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and 400 Chrysler will also host the annual Women’s Empowerment Luncheon at their beautiful showroom at 395 Dunlop St. W., in Barrie.

The theme for IWD is Embrace Equity. Imagine a gender-equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together, we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity.

Executive director for the women and children’s shelter Teresa MacLennan says: “We can all challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, draw attention to bias, and seek out inclusion. Collective activism is what drives change. From grassroots action to wide-scale momentum, we can all embrace equity. Everyone everywhere can play a part. Together, we can all forge positive change.”

Proceeds will directly help women and children in the community recover and rebuild their lives after fleeing violence through many programs, counselling and, of course, safe and affordable housing.

The Empowerment Luncheon is on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the keynote beginning at 12:30. Tickets and more info are here. Celebrate the day with an #EmbraceEquity picture on your social feeds.

The day will feature a vendor fair, silent auction, a catered lunch featuring an eight-foot charcuterie board and grazing table. The guest speaker will be Jayne Pritchard, formerly of CTV Barrie and now author of the best-selling book, Breast Cancer After the Diagnosis.
