On Saturday, July 10, Innisfil residents will be taking part in a town-wide garage sale, spearheaded by local ladies Jacquie Raaphorst and Ashley Newman.
Raaphorst came up with the idea in the spring, after going through her late mother's belongings that have been taking up space in her home for the past few years. She thought it would be fun to get neighbours involved in a town-wide garage sale and pitched her idea on a local community Facebook page.
Newman was immediately interested after reading Raaphorst's post, and the pair started a Facebook page for those interested in taking part.
"We've all been stuck with our belonging for almost two years," said Newman, who moved with her family to Innisfil during the pandemic. She said this will be a good way for residents to not only purge some of their unwanted items but to help put some money into their pockets as well.
Newman says she was "born and raised" going to garage sales, and loves the thrill of the find.
The Facebook page 'Innisfil's Biggest Garage Sale!!!' has just over 600 members, who plan to take part by either selling, buying, or both.
A thread has been started where members have listed their street names to make it easy to find the sales.
"I'm really looking forward to it," says resident Alex Turner who moved to Alcona just three years ago. "It’s my first year, first time participating in something like this."
Since the pandemic started, Turner has been crafting at home and even started her own wood sign business AlexGetsCrafty. She will be selling some of her pieces at the Garage Sale.
Ilayna Harris who lives on Pinegrove says she is excited to take part in the sale.
"We hope people will come to this part (town) as we are more rural," said Harris.
Harris is clearing out her basement in order to create a small home office.
"Just seeing people is going to the most exciting thing," she added.
Some members of the Facebook group who live out of town are also planning to attend.
"We have people coming from everywhere, that's what we want, we want this to be huge," said Newman.
The rain date for the event is Sunday, July 11.
The Town of Innisfil's garage sale ban due to COVID-19 has been lifted and residents are now welcome to host and attend garage sales.

The women hope to get as many residents as possible to take part and would like to make the event an annual tradition. They are also encouraging everyone to make a donation, if possible, to Procyon Wildlife in support of local wildlife in need of care.
