Innisfil musician ready to 'kick it into full gear' for 2023

Kyle Wauchope performed over 90 times in 2022 and is set to release his second single, Lovely, in February

Kyle Wauchope, born and raised in Innisfil, released his first single, Not Even, as a solo artist in November 2022. A proud member of the Carl Rundown Band, Wauchope has played in numerous venues and locations, including the iconic Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee where he and Dan Uhde of the Carl Rundown Band performed.

If you are wondering why Wauchope’s surname looks familiar, yes, Wauchope is the son of the former Innisfil mayor Gord Wauchope.

Wauchope has been performing in and around the Simcoe County area for over 20 years. It was a passion that started at the Summersault 2000 tour. Then teenaged Wauchope was surrounded by like-minded fans at Molson Park (now Park Place) in Barrie. The Foo Fighters took to the stage and Wauchope saw their electric performance and their connection with fans. With that, the switch was flipped and the desire to write music and perform was awakened.

Wauchope says that in addition to the Foo Fighters, he is inspired by bands like The Tragically Hip and The Glorious Sons. He describes his style as Canadiana and explained that he writes his best music in winter, as he insists that experiencing all four seasons inspires the creation of good songs.

When restaurants and venues were closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, Wauchope focused on writing. As soon as establishments re-opened, he was eager to perform in front of an audience, as so many were keen to revel in the energy that comes with live music.

“A good gig is a gig where they’ll ask you to come back, a great gig is where you get another one out of it,” Wauchope said.

Performing over 90 times in 2022 alone, Wauchope is “ready to kick it into full gear for 2023.”

Wauchope will be playing at The Last Shot Bar & Grill in Thornton this Saturday and at Quayle’s Brewery in Coldwater on Friday Jan. 13. You can listen to his song, 'Not Even,' on various platforms, such as Apple Music, YouTube, Spotify and 92.3FM Nish Radio (Georgina Island).

Also, be sure to watch for the release of Wauchope’s second single titled 'Lovely' and accompanying music video in February. You can subscribe to Wauchope's YouTube channel here.
