At Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s (RVH) board of directors’ annual general meeting (AGM) last week, Jason Teal was named chair, effective June 4.

Teal is vice-president of business banking at Meridian Credit Union, where he leads a team of small business and commercial banking professionals across the province. He has served on RVH’s board of directors since 2017, most recently as vice-chair.

He holds a bachelor of arts from Carleton University and a master of business administration from McMaster University. His past volunteerism includes being a board member of the Downtown Barrie Business Association and a steering committee member for the Barrie Business Ambassadors.

“I’m honoured to be board chair and so excited about this next chapter,” says Teal. “I originally joined the RVH board of directors because I was eager for the opportunity to give back to my community. I’m especially proud to be involved with RVH, an organization with an extraordinary legacy that continues to touch the lives of all families in the region.

"I wanted to challenge myself and to bring my leadership and other board experience to RVH to contribute to this remarkable team. And what better time to be leading this amazing group of people than as we launch our new strategic plan – which we will be sharing with the community very shortly.”

Thank you to outgoing chair Doug Frost for his commitment over the past 11 years both as chair and as a board member. The board will continue to benefit from his knowledge and dedication to patients and families in his new role as past chair.
Board member Kimberly Matheson will move into the role of first vice-chair and Shelley Potts into the role of second vice-chair.

The RVH board also welcomed three new members Joshua Valler, a partner at Barriston Law practising in general civil litigation and employment law; Mitchell Davidson, chief of staff, iGaming Ontario (iGO); and Trevor Lee, deputy chief administrative officer, corporate service with the City of Guelph, and soon to be a new resident of Barrie.

“Our volunteer board of directors is a vital link between the health centre and the communities we serve, not only monitoring performance standards and financial accountability, but also ensuring RVH delivers on its promise to bring world-class care close to home,” says Gail Hunt, RVH president and CEO. “We are so lucky to have such a talented and diverse team governing our health centre.”
