More listings on the Innisfil Heritage Register

Listing is not designation, committee notes

Good morning Lefroy

The Innisfil Heritage committee recently recommended adding four buildings of historic interest to the town's Heritage Register – 1364 Killarney Beach Road, 1369 Killarney Beach Road, and 1382 Killarney Beach Road, all in the historic village of Lefroy; and 4930 County Road 27.

The Committee emphasized that the buildings are not being designated as Heritage Sites, but are only listed on the Register.

“Are the property owners made aware of that?” Coun. Bill Van Berkel wanted to know, when the recommendation came before council on Wednesday night.

“Yes, the property owners were made aware,” said Kevin Jacob, assistant clerk with the town. He noted that the owners were also invited to attend the Heritage Committee meeting at which listing was discussed.

Jacob explained that there are no limitations on the owner when a building is listed, other than a mandated 60-day delay if the owner requests a demolition permit. The delay is intended to allow for the heritage assessment of the structure, before it is demolished.

Council approved the recommendation.
