Ethnic Mosaic Alliance (EMA) is thrilled to partner with the Barrie Persian Association and the South Asian Association of Simcoe County and the Barrie Film Festival to offer Mosaic Nights.

The Mosaic Nights Festival is a celebration of two international films embedded in two different cultural extravaganzas, in two locations around south Simcoe County, over two Saturday nights this summer. The Mosaic Nights Festival will bring the world to Simcoe County through these unique cultural experiences.

Mosaic Nights will take place in two premier locations in the county: the newly animated Meridian Place at Barrie’s waterfront and the beautiful Riverdale Park in Alliston. Both events coincide with respective community initiatives. The Downtown Barrie BIA will host Mosaic Nights with Open Air Dunlop, while the Museum on the Boyne adjacent to Riverdale Park will be hosting their Open Doors Simcoe County.

This event will offer free outdoor viewing of an acclaimed feature-length film with a pre-movie experience showcasing the food and music of each ethno-cultural group shown in the films. This year’s series will focus on the cultures of Iran, Afghanistan and Southeast Asia. Culturally specific food vendors will offer takeout/picnic-style opportunities at each event. Dance performances, arts and music will be offered to allow participants to experience the cultures first-hand.

“We’re very grateful for the generous support of the County of Simcoe’s 2023 Tourism, Culture and Sport Enrichment Grant, the TD Bank Group’s Connected Communities grant, Alectra Cares Community Support Program, and the Town of New Tecumseth’s 2023 Arts, Culture and Tourism Grant,” says Shelley Sarin, chair of the Ethnic Mosaic Alliance. “Hosting events like this helps EMA achieve its mission of promoting and celebrating diversity in Simcoe County.”

EMA is a non-profit organization created to embrace, promote, and celebrate cultural diversity in Simcoe County. Comprised of a passionate, dedicated, and active volunteer board, EMA is working to create a multicultural centre in Simcoe County.
