The Town of Innisfil is bringing Neighbourhood Nights back this spring.
Residents of all ages are invited to connect with their community, meet their neighbours, and enjoy an evening of fun activities organized by the Town of Innisfil, Innisfil ideaLAB and Library, InnPower, InnServices, Innisfil Fire and Rescue, and South Simcoe Police Service. The events will take place on Tuesday nights over the next few weeks in neighbourhoods throughout Innisfil:
- Tuesday, May 31 at Cookstown Community Park, 20 Church St., 6 to 8 p.m.
- Tuesday, June 7 at Lefroy Settlement Area Management Inc. (LSAMI) Park, 1384 Lormel Gate Ave., 6 to 8 p.m.
- Tuesday, June 14 at Leonard’s Beach, 2711 Ireton St., 6 to 8 p.m.
Neighbourhood Nights will feature a range of activities including the Mobile Youth Centre’s portable skate park, basketball nets, lawn games, seed planting with the town’s health and wellness team, and activities with the Innisfil ideaLAB and Library. Town staff will be handing out Innisfil swag, answering questions about the upcoming municipal election, and engaging with residents about town projects. Innisfil Fire and Rescue’s fire prevention and suppression truck and InnPower’s bucket truck will also be on display for kids to try out the fire hose and meet a lineman.
The Town of Innisfil introduced Neighbourhood Nights in 2018 to bring fun recreational opportunities to Innisfil residents during the summer months. This year will be the first year the events have taken place since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.
“People are excited to reconnect with their neighbours and community after two long years of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mayor Lynn Dollin. “Through our community needs assessment, residents told us that fun and safe in-person events help support mental health and build community.”
This year the town received an $800 grant from ParticipACTION’s Community Better Challenge in support of Neighbourhood Nights. The Community Better Challenge is a national physical activity initiative that encourages Canadians to get active in June and help crown their town as Canada’s Most Active Community. The town will use the grant funds to purchase new equipment for the Mobile Youth Centre, allowing Innisfil youth to stay physically active in the community this summer at no cost.
