Shak’s World will head into the March break with some top-notch basketball workshops through a new partnership with Nike.
The Barrie community centre has recently become an official partner with Nike Sports Camps for various camps and workshops.
Shak’s World Community Centre founder Shanicka Edwards explained what this new initiative means for everyone involved.
“It means all of our coaches and staff will be trained by Nike to uphold a high-quality basketball experience,” she said. “Each participant also receives a Nike camp T-shirt along with giveaways all provided by Nike.”
The March break camp, which runs from March 13-17, is open for ages seven to 17 years old and is the only camp in the area affiliated with Nike, the closest being in York Region.
Participants will work on improving ball handling, playmaking, shooting, and physical fitness.
There will also be half day camps that will run Monday to Friday through July and August, which will work on:
• Improving overall game through dribbling, passing, shooting, playmaking, and defensive drills used by the pros
• Teamwork as a fundamental to all of our teaching
• Making mental health just as important as your physical health
• Ball handling, playmaking, shooting, and physical fitness
All campers receive a Nike Basketball Camp T-shirt and other Nike prizes.
