The Shoebox Project for Women, supported by klick - Simcoe County Chapter, is excited to announce its 2023 Holiday Shoebox campaign, uniting the community in a chain reaction of empathy and compassion.

This marks the 10th year of the annual holiday gift drive for the Simcoe County Shoebox Project, celebrating a decade of operation in Simcoe County and local commitment to creating a Culture of Care for women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals impacted by homelessness.

It is a 100 per cent volunteer run, registered charity covering the whole regions of Simcoe County and Grey County.

The official launch event is set for Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the East Bayfield Community Centre, Green Rink, in Barrie, in collaboration with the Barrie Jr. Sharks.

Attendees at this family-friendly event can enjoy a junior hockey game at 2 p.m. and drop off shoebox gifts or donations, spreading the joy of giving in the community. This partnership with the Barrie Jr. Sharks adds a new level of excitement to the event.

In a year where more Canadians are seeking support from the non-profit sector, requests for shoebox gifts are at an all-time high in Simcoe County.

The Simcoe County Shoebox Project's goal is to provide 1,500 shoeboxes by Dec. 12, 2023, to their partnering organizations.

The Shoebox gift is simple: put together a shoebox with about $50 worth of items that can help someone experiencing homelessness.

This year, the Shoebox Project has added "gender-inclusive shoeboxes" to recognize the diversity in the community they serve, promoting fairness and inclusivity.

Donors are encouraged to include a personal message of support or a warm greeting to make the gift even more special.

Once completed, drop off your shoebox at authorized locations dedicated to The Shoebox Project between Nov. 12 to Dec. 12, 2023.

The Shoebox Project will deliver these gifts to local shelters or community agencies serving vulnerable individuals in time for the holidays.

This holiday season, there are numerous ways to support those affected by homelessness beyond gifting shoeboxes. Virtual shoebox donations and financial contributions can also be made online at the official Chapter website, ShoeboxProject.com/simcoe, with tax receipts issued for financial donations.

Community members, businesses, and organizations interested in donating a shoebox or participating in other ways can find detailed information by visiting Shoeboxproject.com/simcoe, or connect through social media to become part of a caring community dedicated to creating a Culture of Care.
