GO Transit riders using the Barrie Line will need to pack their patience this weekend.

The next phase of signal enhancement works along the Downsview Park and Union Station corridor is set to begin this weekend, resulting in the temporary suspension of trains south of Rutherford GO Station.

That means Barrie rail service will be temporarily suspended between Rutherford GO and Union Station to allow for "critical" signal work in that area, according to Metrolinx, which operates the rail service.

During this time, trains on the Barrie Line will continue to run between the Rutherford GO and Allandale Waterfront GO stations, however it will be on a reduced schedule.

Improvements on the Barrie Line are part of the GO Transit expansion program, which officials say will “transform GO from a rush-hour service to a more frequent, two-way all-day rapid transit experience."

Foundational work for a second track, as well as other upgrades, will help improve service and make this service expansion possible, says Metrolinx.

GO buses will run between Aurora GO and Rutherford GO to the Highway 407 Bus Terminal. People who are travelling to Union Station can then transfer to TTC Line 1 subway to continue their journey to Toronto.
