Stunning property with short trails provides true Canadian winter experience (12 photos)

Grant's Wood’s Nature Reserve, northwest of Orillia, has four kilometres of short, connecting trail loops are fitted with colourful markers

After a fresh snowfall, Grant's Wood’s Nature Reserve appears the epitome of the Canadian experience.

The four kilometres of short, connecting loops of trails are fitted with colourful markers distinguishing plants and their traditional medicinal uses complete with their Indigenous names.

Easily accessed off Division Road West, northwest of Orillia, the 21-hectare property also serves as home to the Couchiching Conservancy.

A series of bridges connects trails on the property, donated by the second generation of the Grant family 20 years ago.

Other attributes listed on the conservancy’s website include a long list of fauna and flora, much of the latter dormant for the winter with the area's streams and ravines obscured by the snow.
