Vigil tonight to honour victims of Vaughan condo shooting

Members of the community are invited to attend and bring a candle

A candlelight vigil is being held in Vaughan Wednesday, Dec. 21.

A vigil is being held tonight for the victims of the shooting rampage at a condominium building in Vaughan Dec. 18. 

Rita Camilleri, 57, Vittorio Panza, 79, Russell Manock, 75, Helen Manock, 71 and Naveed Dada, 59 were all killed in the tragic incident. A sixth victim, a 66-year-old woman, was seriously injured and remains in hospital. 

Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca invited members of the community to attend the vigil that is being hosted by the city. 

It will be held in the Vaughan City Hall courtyard at 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr. at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Dec. 21. Attendees are asked to bring their own candles to light in memory of the victims. 

Del Duca and other guests will share remarks starting at 7:45 p.m. 

Parking at city hall is limited and a shuttle will be provided from nearby Maple Community Centre at 10190 Keele St.

Flags in Vaughan have been lowered to half-mast in memory of the victims. 

Police have identified Francesco Villi, 73, as the shooter. He was killed after an interaction with a police officer on the scene. The suspect and all the victims were residents of the condo building, which is in the area of Jane Street and Rutherford Road.
