Sometimes, food is the food of love: A romantic dinner can add fuel to the spark between two hearts. This Valentine’s Day, a number of local restaurants are offering romantic options for those looking for a special way to celebrate with their special someone.
The Fork and Plate Family Grill, located at 2383 – 25 Sideroad in Alcona, is usually open Wednesdays through Sundays but closed on Mondays. However this Monday, Feb. 14, the family-owned restaurant will be open to host a very special Valentine’s Dinner. For $59.95 per person, diners will have a choice of entrée – Cupid’s Tenderloin, Chicken with Sage and Cranberry, or Roast Rack of Lamb – served with either Love Soup (roasted red pepper and tomato, as red as a Valentine heart) or salad, and dessert of Chocolate Fondue for two. Friday Harbour Resort is celebrating Valentine’s Day all weekend, offering a romantic 4-course take-out dinner for $85 per person, available from Feb. 11 to 14. The dinner includes French onion soup, salad, parfait, a choice of entrée – Surf and Turf, Lobster Bisque or a gourmet vegetarian option – with chocolate cake and petit fours to wrap up. Dinner orders must be placed 24 hours in advance, by calling 705-812-8880, ext. 8401, but there will be plenty of free Valentine’s fun on Saturday and Sunday, from ice skating in the Piazza (with an Après Skate Bar), performances that include Mariposa School of Skating demonstrations, and an opportunity to declare or renew vows with an Officiant, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Davidson’s Country Dining, 73 Big Bay Point Road, is hosting Valentine Dinner Nights on Feb. 13 and 14, with two sittings each evening (5-7 p.m. and 7:15 to 9 p.m.). The special menu includes a selection of appetizers, like Escargot, Mushroom Crostini, or braised grilled octopus, and choice of 5 gourmet entrees – Davidson’s Famous Prime Rib dinner, a 2 Lb. T-bone steak with Lobster tail, Safron Seafood Risotto, Altlantic Salmon wrapped in banana leaves and served on a bed of rice, and Butterflied Baked Cornish Hen – finishing with deserts that include Chocolate cake. A Taste of Europe, 1335 Killarney Beach Road in Lefroy, is closed on Valentine’s Day Monday, but all this weekend the Bistro is offering a Valentine’s Take-Out Special – a romantic meal for two, to take home and enjoy without the cooking and washing up. For only $38, take home lasagna dinners, garlic bread, Caesar salads and dessert for Two. Valentine’s desserts include heart-shaped shortbread cookies and other luscious treats.
