The game between the Barrie Baycats and Kitchener Panthers at Jack Couch Park was postponed due to the weather. That game will be rescheduled.

The Baycats (5-5) hit the road against the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Panthers (7-5) hit the road against the Welland Jackfish Thursday at 7:25 p.m.

Lots of offence in Maple Leafs win over Royals

If you like offence, Dominico Field at Christie Pits was the place to be Sunday afternoon. The Toronto Maple Leafs had 20 hits and the Guelph Royals hit 16, in a 14-10 victory for the Leafs during Intercounty Baseball League action

After the two teams exchanged a pair of runs in the first inning and the Royals taking a one-run lead after two, the Maple Leafs scored six times in the third to pull away. During that rally, Jesse Hodges and Connor Lewis doubled to score a run each, while Dan Marra and Greg Carrington singled to score two runs each.

Down but not out, the Royals scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to get within a run. But in the sixth inning, the Maple Leafs rallied again to put up six more runs. Justin Marra hit solo home run and Hodges added a two-run shot, while Lewis hit another double for an RBI. Carrington finished the inning off with another two-run single.

The Royals again attempted to come back in the seventh, when they scored three runs, led by Corey Morro’s two-run single.

Ryan Wells was credited with the win, while Kyle Thomas was tagged with the loss.

The Maple Leafs improve to 8-5 and host the Barrie Baycats Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Royals are now 4-8 and host the Welland Jackfish Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Jackfish reel in Cardinals

A two-run home run from James Smibert in the top of the first inning set the tone, as the Welland Jackfish came away with a 9-4 win over the Hamilton Cardinals at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium during Intercounty Baseball League action.

After the Cardinals responded with a run of their own in the first inning, the Jackfish added one run in the third, fourth, and eighth innings, before pulling away thanks to a four-run ninth inning.

Ethan Hunt led a balanced Jackfish attack with three hits.

Despite getting 10 hits, the Jackfish defence neutralized the Cardinals attack. Starter Will Jackman did his part, striking out five, while allowing one run on three hits in six innings of work.

Jayson Wilbur is on the record with the loss on the mound.

The Jackfish, now 9-2,  hit the road to play the Guelph Royals Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. the Cardinals drop to 7-5 and host the Barrie Baycats Friday at 7:35 p.m.
