Collingwood Blues net two wins while hosting Cottage Cup

Semi-finals and final game slated for this afternoon and evening at Eddie Bush Memorial Arena

Collingwood's Junior A hockey team has racked up two wins in the three-day Cottage Cup the local club is hosting at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena. 

Co-hosted by the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) and the Collingwood Blues, the annual Cottage Cup Showcase runs until later today and features teams from the OJHL, the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, Central Canada Hockey League, and one team from Germany. 

Collingwood has two wins and is working on its third today. The Blues have two shutouts in the Cottage Cup so far: 4-0 against the Jungeradler Mannheim (from Germany) and 2-0 against Leamington, both on Aug. 29. 

OJHL teams competing include the host Blues, the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, Trenton Golden Hawks, Buffalo Jr. Sabres, and one the OJHL’s newest team, the Leamington Flyers.

The reigning champion Timmins Rock is the team representing the NOJHL.

The Carleton Place Canadians are entered from the CCHL.

Finally, the touring Jungadler Mannheim U20 team from Germany rounds out the draw of teams for the Junior A pre-season event.

The Cottage Cup continues today with the quarter-finals, two semifinal games and the final.

The Buffalo Jr. Sabres won their quarter-final game, 2-1, versus the Trenton Golden Hawks. 

The Collingwood Blues are facing off against the Timmins Rock this morning. 

At noon, Jungeradler Mannheim plays CPC, and at 1:30 p.m. the Jr. Canadiens play the Leamington Flyers. 

Semifinal games take place at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., with the final game to follow at 6 p.m.
