Jackfish bounce back with big win over Baycats in Game 3

The Welland Jackfish are back in the Dominico Cup final series following a decisive 13-1 victory at home over the Barrie Baycats last night in Game 3.

The Baycats now lead the best-of-seven series, 2-1, with Game 4 set for tonight at Vintage Throne Stadium in Midhurst.

After scoring six runs through the first two games of the Dominico Cup championship series, Welland's offence came to life Tuesday night.

Jackfish catcher Sam Cawker went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in the win.

Welland's Carlos Martinez slammed a pinch-hit, three-run blast and Steven Moretto hit his sixth home run of the playoffs, a solo shot in the second inning.

James Smibert went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, Matteo Porcellato picked up a pair of hits, and Gianfranco Morello, Hogan Brown and Tyler Dupuis all drove in a run.

Welland pitcher James Bradwell struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings for the win. He gave up one hit and didn’t issue a walk.

Victor Plaz scored Barrie’s run on an error in the top of the eighth.

Barrie's Jeifry Nunez took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits over 1.2 innings. He walked two and struck out one.

Game time tonight is 7:35 p.m. at the Barrie Community Sports Complex.
