Innisfil athletes, coaches, teams and clubs are encouraged to submit nominees/submissions for a chance to be recognized in Innisfil’s Virtual Sports Hall of Fame. The new Hall of Fame was approved this week by Innisfil Council and will see local athletes, teams and organizations honoured virtually online and potentially at a Town facility in the future. The Town of Innisfil’s Sports Hall of Fame will be a community-driven initiative that celebrates the outstanding achievements and contributions of local athletes and community facilities by preserving the stories and histories of sport in the Town of Innisfil.
“We want to build the space where we can begin hearing and sharing our most important stories when it comes to our local athletes and sports teams,” said Innisfil Mayor Lynn Dollin. “If you have an idea about any individual, team, or organization—past or present—who has made a significant contribution or achievement we strongly encourage you to make a submission.”
This project was inspired by a motion from Ward 1 Councillor Kevin Eisses, who shared the potential to create an archive of sports stories across the community to celebrate fond memories and great achievements.
Completed submissions should highlight an individual, team or organization who has demonstrated an outstanding level of achievement or career in sports locally, provincially, nationally or internationally at a competition or event. For individual athletes, participants must have been born in the Town of Innisfil, lived in the Town for a minimum of two years or participated in sport in the Town for two consecutive seasons. Photos and videos are highly recommended to help document and better tell the team story. When in doubt about any requirement, residents are encouraged to make a submission for consideration.
