Royals cruise to victory over Baycats following early jump

Barrie squad will look to rebound from loss with a game tonight in Brantford

With three runs in the first inning and two more in the second, the Guelph Royals cruised to a 6-4 victory over the Barrie Baycats on Thursday during Intercounty Baseball League action at Vintage Throne Stadium.

Malik Collymore and Justin Interisano both singled to score runs in the first inning, while Collymore hit a triple to score a pair in the second inning.

Malik Williams had three hits and two RBI, while Adam Odd pitched in with a pair of hits to lead the Baycats’ offence.

Brandon Deans pitched five innings, striking out six to get the win. Juan Benitez was tagged with the loss.

The Royals improve to 12-18 and host the Hamilton Cardinals on Saturday at 7:35 p.m. The Baycats drop to 18-10 and visit the Brantford Red Sox on Friday at 8 p.m.

Panthers stretch big seventh inning into a win over Red Sox

The Kitchener Panthers scored five times in the seventh inning to stretch a 7-4 win over the Brantford Red Sox Thursday at Jack Couch Park during Intercounty Baseball League action.

Liam Wilson hit a two-run single, while Yunior Ibarra’s double also scored a pair in the big inning.

The Panthers also scored four runs in the second inning to get things going. Humberto Ruiz hit a two-run double, while Jorden Carthy scored two thanks to his single to left field.

Gus Wilson had a solo homer in the fifth inning for the Red Sox. Kieran Bowles, Nick Burdett and Jesse Fishbaum all had a pair of hits in the losing cause.

Nathan Laird was credited with the win, while the Panthers’ starter pitched six solid innings, striking out six. 

Aidan Armitage took the loss. Red Sox starter Quincy Jones allowed four runs on four hits, and struck out six.

The Panthers improve to 19-11 and visit the Hamilton Cardinals Friday at 7:35 p.m. The Red Sox are now 6-25 and host the Barrie Baycats Friday at 8 p.m.
