19-year-old dirt bike operator in serious condition after crash

INNISFIL, ON - On Saturday, June 6, 2020, around 6 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a dirt bike in
Alcona.

A 19-year-old man was riding through the woods when he crashed. He was taken to a local hospital by County of Simcoe Paramedics and then airlifted
via Ornge air ambulance to a Toronto trauma centre, He is listed in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

Off-road vehicles are a popular form of recreation but we urge drivers to follow these tips for a safe ride:

  • Always wear an approved helmet and make sure it is securely fastened.
  • Never operate while intoxicated by alcohol or drugs.
  • Read the instruction manual and obey warning labels and stickers on the ATV.
  • One person ORVs are not designed for passengers and it’s dangerous to operate a one-person ORV with a passenger.
  • ORV headlights are generally not as bright as car lights and operators should not over drive their headlights at night.
  • Speed should be adjusted to different terrain conditions.
  • Check with the local town office to ensure what roads are approved.
  • Make sure you’re ORV is registered, plated and insured.
