Police and fire services were called to remove a break-in suspect from Trinity Anglican Church on Collier Street in Barrie on Jan. 22. One person was taken into custody.

City police responded to a break-in and apprehended a suspect at Trinity Anglican Church on Collier Street in downtown Barrie this afternoon.

The incident began at 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 22 with police negotiating an end to the situation and taking one person into custody at 1:13 p.m.

The police called for the assistance of Barrie Fire and Emergency Service (BFES) to help with the extrication of the person, but firefighters were not required in the end.

The suspect gained access through a broken window, Barrie police communications coordinator Peter Leon said.

It's unclear exactly where in the church the person was located.

“We attended as requested by Barrie police,” Barrie Fire and Emergency Service's Carrie Clark said, adding she was unable to comment further as it was a police matter.

The police investigation is ongoing.
