NEWS RELEASE
SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE SERVICE
*************************
The South Simcoe Police Service continues to respond to reports of residents being targeted by the grandparent scam.

The latest incident was on Tuesday, July 19, at approximately 3:45 p.m.

An Innisfil man said he was called by Alberta RCMP, who claimed his grandson was arrested and needed $8,000 for bail. Police advised the complainant that it was a fraud call and if the suspect(s) call again, do not engage in conversation.

Don’t answer the phone if you don’t recognize the number and simply hang up if it’s someone you don’t know. Call another family member or police to verify the situation. Never give out personal information.

We continue to raise awareness about this scam and encourage residents to discuss frauds with their loved ones. Visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre website for further details: www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.htm.
