A man wanted for allegedly attacking someone with an axe earlier this month in Richmond Hill has been arrested.
On Dec. 13 at about 7 p.m., the suspect had an altercation with another man at a home on Highland Park Boulevard and assaulted him with an axe, according to a York Regional Police news release. The victim was able to fend off the attack and contact police.
The suspect was also wanted in connection to a robbery at a business in Richmond Hill on Nov. 23, during which a hammer was used.
On Tuesday at 7:15 p.m., police received a call from a member of the public who saw the suspect in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive and Old Markham Road. The caller had recognized him from media coverage. Officers responded and arrested the man.
Alexander Gordon Dykes, 59, of no fixed address, has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, break and enter with intent, robbery, and four counts of breach of probation. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
