NEWS RELEASE
SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE SERVICE
*************************
On Thursday, June 11, 2020, around 11:30 a.m., the South Simcoe Police Service Marine Unit responded to a report of a capsized canoe on Lake Simcoe.

The two canoe occupants who were wearing life jackets were in the water approximately one kilometre from Camp Arrowhead.

Upon arrival, police observed a pontoon vessel with three people on board towing the canoe.  A family member in the pontoon vessel had rescued the pair in the water and everyone was fine.

Lake conditions at the time were very choppy due to high winds.

This is the third distress call we have received in recent weeks and it's not even officially summer yet. We can't emphasize enough that you need to check the weather and make common sense decisions before heading out onto the lake and keep your eyes on the skies while boating. Life jackets save lives so always wear yours. Respect the water and be safe.
