Police have determined the deaths of two people at a Bradford home last week was the result of a murder-suicide.
At 6:15 p.m. Friday, South Simcoe police attended a home on Depeuter Crescent to conduct a well-being check. Officers arrived to find two people dead.
In a news release Tuesday, police said the deaths were connected to intimate partner violence.
“In the days prior to police arrival, the perpetrator, a male in his late 60s, killed his wife, who was in her late 50s, then committed suicide,” the release stated, adding they are “actively investigating the reasons that motivated this tragic incident.”
The couple lived in Bradford for “several decades,” police said, noting there had been no prior police calls to the residence.
“Given the sensitive nature of what has taken place, no further information will be released.”
Police urge victims of intimate partner violence to seek support by contacting law enforcement or women’s shelters.
