On Sunday, May 31, 2020, around 1:30 p.m., Marine Unit officers responded to a call for help on Lake Simcoe near Fox Island. Two men in a rubber dinghy had ended up on the Keswick side of the lake due to strong winds and were unable to paddle back to Innisfil. The men were located by officers aboard Marine 1 after the dinghy washed ashore on Fox Island. The boaters and the vessel were transported to safety. The operator of the dinghy, an Innisfil man in his early 20's, was charged with failing to have the required safety equipment on board.

This is the second Marine call in a week involving inclement weather.  Use common sense if you're planning to head out on the water. Check weather conditions before you leave and be aware and prepared for potential changing conditions. These boaters had personal flotation devices and a cell phone but that was it. More safety equipment is required.  Visit here for what you need to know. Boat smart and make safe decisions to prevent tragedies.
