Surveillance images of a robbery suspect released by Barrie police after a Circle K store was robbed at knifepoint on Monday, Jan. 29, 2024.

A variety store was robbed at knifepoint Monday morning in northeast Barrie.

City police responded to a report of an early morning robbery at the Circle K, located at 353 Duckworth St.

At 1:26 a.m. on Jan. 29, police say the suspect approached the cashier while armed with a "kitchen-style" knife and demanded money and cigarettes.

The employee complied with the request and the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of money and a large quantity of packaged cigarettes.

The suspect is described as a white male, standing five-foot-eight to five-foot-10. He was wearing a grey toque, a red, black and grey flannel button-up, with a black hoodie, black and white and red Nike sneakers with red laces, and a light brown face mask.

He was last seen fleeing the area on foot through the parking lot toward Sylvia Street.

The investigation is ongoing by detectives from the criminal investigation division.

"They are hoping that someone may recognize the suspect responsible for this robbery,” Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said in a release Tuesday morning.

“His footwear may be a key to his identity as his red and black coloured Nike shoes with red laces are believed to be somewhat unique,” he added.

Although there were two reported robberies in just under five hours in the same area of northeast Barrie, police say they do not believe they are connected in any way.
