Weekend Festive RIDE Programs combined with proactive patrols resulted in several impaired driving-related offences and arrests.
On Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023 at approximately 6:54 p.m., uniform members of the South Simcoe Police Service were conducting a RIDE Program in the area of Line 5 and Coffey Road in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
Police interacted with a driver who was subsequently placed under arrest. As a result of an investigation, 40-year-old Gevorg Khachatryan of Bradford was charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.
On Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023 at approximately 10:50 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle travelling in the area Innisfil Beach Road and Highway 400 in the Town of Innisfil. As a result of an investigation, 42-year-old Brandon Gilchrist of Innisfil was charged with operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

The Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign is an annual police enforcement and education initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, rideshare or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture. If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 911. In doing so, you may be saving lives.
