Man facing multiple charges following RIDE stop in Rama

The 21-year-old was charged with impaired driving and possession of cocaine after early-morning stop on Rama Road, police say

An Oro-Medonte man is facing several charges after a RIDE stop in Rama First Nation.

Rama Police Service says officers launched a Liquor Licence Control Act investigation after open alcohol was observed inside a vehicle that entered a Rama Road RIDE check at 2:22 a.m. on March 31.

As result of the investigation, Austin Barton, a 21-year-old from Oro-Medonte Township, has been charged for the following offences:

  • Impaired driving
  • Driving while prohibited
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance - cocaine

Barton is scheduled to appear to answer to the charges at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on April 23, 2024.
