An Orillia man was nabbed after a spree of attempted daytime robberies Monday afternoon.

At about 1:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon, an unknown male entered a downtown bank, advised the teller he was armed with a weapon and demanded cash, notes an Orillia OPP media release.

He fled with $100, said Orillia OPP Const. Shelby Russell.

Police "immediately attended and canvassed the area," but did not find the suspect.

A few hours later, at 5:30 p.m., Orillia OPP were advised of another attempted robbery at a Memorial Avenue business. In this case, the suspect did not obtain any cash.

Again, police "immediately attended the area" and set up "containment which ultimately led to the arrest" of the man.

Police later learned the suspect had also robbed a different Memorial Avenue business. He allegedly "threatened violence and demanded cash." He fled with $20.

Orillia's Stephen Fletcher, 24, has been arrested and charged with three counts of robbery with violence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
