Two people are facing charges after a motorcyclist clocked at almost twice the speed limit was picked up at the scene by another driver who police allege was impaired, Friday.
At 10:45 a.m., Sept. 1, South Simcoe police say an officer conducting speed enforcement on Yonge Street in Bradford West Gwillimbury spotted a motorcycle travelling southbound at a high rate of speed.
Police say the officer obtained a speed measurement of 152 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 km/h zone.
A traffic stop was conducted.
A 24-year-old Ajax man has been charged with stunt driving, speeding, and novice driver blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) above zero. In addition to the 30-day driver's licence suspension and his motorcycle being impounded for 14 days, the man, whose name was not released, was also issued a three-day BAC suspension.
Police say the motorcyclist called a friend to pick him up, but when that driver arrived at the scene, he was arrested for impaired driving.
Damian Persaud, 24, of Innisfil, has been charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired and operation of a motor vehicle while impaired - excess blood-alcohol. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.
None of the allegations have been tested in court.
