Barrie Fire and Emergency Services rescued several animals from a fire at a home in the city’s north end Saturday night.

Crews got the call of smoke and fire at a home on Henry Street — not far from Anne and Dunlop Street West — around 7 p.m. on March 2, confirmed Assistant Deputy Chief Eric MacFadden.

Four trucks attended the call, he said, adding no one was home when crews arrived.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters saw flames coming out a window on one side of the house, MacFadden said.

“They made entry and were able to evacuate some pets that were in the house … four dogs I believe, but I am not sure how many cats,” he said.

While it didn’t take crews long to extinguish the fire, crews remained on the scene for several hours overhauling to ensure the fire had not extended into the walls.

No injuries were sustained during the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no damage estimate has been determined, he noted.

“The homeowner’s insurance company will be looking into it.”
