No injuries reported from partial roof collapse in south Barrie

'Everyone was evacuated safely. The building is closed at this point. Everything is in a safe state,' says Barrie Fire official

A partial roof collapse at a south-end Barrie company this morning did not result in any injuries.

“Everyone was evacuated safely,” Barrie Fire and Emergency Service assistant deputy fire chief Justin Gilbert said.

“The building is closed at this point. Everything is in a safe state," he said.

Gilbert said the fire department was called to 530 Welham Rd., which is Fresh Mix Ltd., at about 7 a.m. on Friday.

He said the reason for the partial collapse has not been determined.

“We have one crew remaining on scene awaiting the city building department and engineers from the building to arrive,” Gilbert said just after 9 a.m. “Once that’s completed, it will be handed back over to the owners of the property.”

He said all services to the building, including gas, have been turned off.

Barrie police communications coordinator Peter Leon said Welham Road between Churchill and Mapleview drives had been closed, but has since re-opened.

Fresh Mix provides field-fresh, packaged and ready-to-eat produce and prepared food.

A BradfordToday and InnisfilToday reporter at the scene says most of the damage appears to be on the north side of the building.
