No one has been arrested yet as Barrie police detectives continued their investigation today into Friday afternoon's downtown shooting.
A 59-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after she was shot behind a building on Lakeshore Mews, in the vicinity of Dunlop and Mulcaster streets. The crime scene is not far from Meridian Place and the city's waterfront.
The victim was airlifted to a Toronto hospital and is reported by police to be in "in non-life-threatening condition."
A pair of detectives were seen canvassing residents and businesses on Saturday in the area where the incident took place. They were looking for video evidence from security cameras that may have captured those responsible.
“It’s not random,” one of the officers told a BarrieToday reporter near the area of the shooting. “Nobody’s been arrested yet."
Officers responded to the initial call around 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 24.
An area behind the Dunlop Street East buildings, known as Lakeshore News, was cordoned off with police tape until late Friday night.
Police at the scene earlier told BarrieToday that the shooting scene is located at the rear of the building at 133 Dunlop St. E.
Officers could also be seen on the fire-escape stairway part way up the back of the building on Friday evening.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the only sign of the crime scene that remained were a few small pools of blood on the ground near the buildings where the shooting occurred.
The investigation is ongoing.
