A Barrie police officer and one of the passengers in another vehicle were injured in a cruiser-related crash early Saturday morning.

At 1:30 a.m., July 29, police say a fully marked cruiser was going eastbound on Georgian Drive in the city's north end while responding to a "priority call with its emergency equipment activated when a motor vehicle turned into it."

The driver of the police vehicle sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

There were three people in the other vehicle involved in the collision. One passenger was taken to hospital for a minor facial injury.

"The subsequent investigation determined that the police vehicle was forced to travel into the westbound lane of Georgian Drive as the other involved motor vehicle failed to pull over to the right and come to a stop as other drivers had done," police stated in a news release Monday morning. "As the police vehicle continued eastbound, the other involved car turned into the path of the police vehicle causing damage to the right front corner."

The driver of the car, a 24-year-old Barrie man, was "unco-operative with the investigating officers" and was placed under arrest for obstructing police and impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He was later released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on Aug. 9.
