The Nottawasaga detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is launching an eight-week public awareness campaign centred around traffic safety.

The goals of the campaign are to eliminate street racing in the affected areas, inform and educate residents, and to attend local car meets to provide community engagement with our officers.

Nottawasaga OPP Provincial Constable Bhamber, who is an avid car enthusiast, is spearheading the public awareness campaign and will be attending local community car meets, as well as releasing informative video clips featuring different cars, informative pictures and traffic stops with pictures.

In an effort to encourage educate car enthusiasts and the general public about traffic safety, the public awareness campaign, which will primarily take place on Twitter @OPP_CR and Facebook @OPPCentralRegion, will cover a number of topics, including:

  • motor vehicle modifications
  • excessively loud motor vehicles
  • aggressive/distracted driving/stunt driving
  • providing education and information
  • community car meets

Front-line officers at Nottawasaga OPP will be part of a two-month long campaign focusing on street racing, vehicle modifications and informative tips. Officers from Nottawasaga OPP have received training to recognize illegal modifications to motor vehicles, as well as educational background to educate or enforce drivers of these types of vehicles. Commencing Tuesday July 11, through to fall of 2023, officers from Nottawasaga OPP will be attending car meets at the Walmart on Dunham Drive at 6 p.m., and on Thursdays at the Foodland parking lot in Beeton at 6 p.m., weather depending.
