Pedestrian killed in Friday night crash

Barrie police say driver has been arrested; crash happened at Big Bay Point Road and Leggott Avenue

At approximately 10:15 p.m., Friday, emergency services responded to a serious collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Big Bay Point Road and Leggott Avenue in Barrie's south end.

The collision scene extended from there to Big Bay Point Road.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that the pedestrian was deceased, with the vehicle and driver located a short distance away.

The driver has been arrested.

The heavily damaged vehicle caught fire and was extinguished by fire crews at the scene.

The road was reopened just before 4 a.m., Saturday.

More details are expected to be released Monday morning.
