Two women experienced scares Friday night after being attacked by a man wielding a knife at a south-end Barrie plaza.

City police responded to the separate incidents, which took place at a plaza located at Big Bay Point and Yonge Street, around 8 p.m. on July 28, confirmed Peter Leon, the force’s communications co-ordinator.

Leon said a man had approached the two women last night in the parking lot of the plaza.

“He brandished a knife in the second incident and swung it, but the woman’s husband intervened and a fight ensued between the two,” said Leon.

The accused — a 54-year-old man of no fixed address — was arrested and has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and failing to comply with a release order.

He was held for bail after being transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
